The Madras High Court recently ruled that a person who converts to Islam cannot claim Backward Class (Muslim) status solely through conversion. The Court also observed that executive orders cannot override judicial decisions. This judgment is important from the perspective of reservation policy, constitutional law and the doctrine of separation of powers.

The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that an Indian Passport is primarily a travel document and should not be treated as conclusive proof of Indian citizenship. Documents such as Birth Certificate, Certificate of Registration and Certificate of Naturalisation are recognised as valid proof of citizenship under Indian law.

3️⃣ Supreme Court Directions on Emergency Trauma Care

The Supreme Court has directed all States and Union Territories to establish a unified Emergency Trauma Care System to reduce deaths caused by road accidents and medical emergencies.

It has instructed the integration of multiple emergency helpline numbers into a single number (112), along with GPS-enabled ambulances, a National Trauma Registry, and stronger Good Samaritan protection.

4️⃣ Lipulekh Pass

Lipulekh Pass is a high-altitude Himalayan mountain pass located at the tri-junction of India, Nepal and China (Tibet). India has recently resumed border trade through this pass after several years.
